At the crucial age of 25, I was constantly doubting myself and getting bogged down in self-doubt. In that case, I need to keep reflecting on myself.

How to enhance concentration during the process of grouth?

Here are some brief notes from the motivational books I have recently read. I am content with the present situation and enjoy living life as a game. Therefore, the summaries here may not be comprehensive. I just jot down whatever comes to mind, hoping to inspire myself and also those who have the time to read this blog.

Make a Little Process

The human brain always has its limitations.

I used to be proud of the fact that I seemed capable of performing multi-process work in an engineer-like manner, and even forced myself to write programs in a multi-process style. But after carefully reading David Rock’s “Your Brain at Work”, I realized how ridiculous I was. I always got stuck in my own ways, wanting to complete several tasks simultaneously and leaving my own mark in the human society. Now, I still can’t be general and vague; I need to focus on my current topic, modeling and analyzing microscopic traffic behavior.

Scientific research is essentially non-repetitive mental labor, a process of creative thinking. One must firmly believe that even if it takes longer (than mechanical labor), it is still engaged in the greatest undertaking in human history. To undertake any non-repetitive mental labor, including planning, organizing, prioritizing, and creating, requires the use of a small, fragile and energy-consuming brain region, namely the prefrontal cortex. It is difficult for humans to reach their best state and they are prone to distraction. Sometimes the prefrontal cortex itself is the problem. When you want to be more creative, you need to have the ability to turn it off.

Changing others is difficult

I am definitely an altruist. Regarding the tasks assigned to me by the team, I have never slackened in carrying them out. Why? When I was a child, my belief was that life is just about living, but it should be meaningful and full of brilliance. Now, my thinking is that human society is essentially built upon a bunch of virtual concepts. Instead of living a mediocre life, it’s better to contribute to the big team. Dinosaurs existed on the earth for hundreds of millions of years but eventually disappeared. Although humans consider themselves the most intelligent species at present, what can we leave behind? This is the original intention of my altruistic thoughts.

However, under the influence of capital, humans are often self-interested. In many cases, they are always striving for maximum utility. I can’t claim to be a completely selfless person. So, treat others’ opinions correctly!

I should learn the following. Have a natural inclination towards focusing on problems and offering suggestions. Explore a new way of interaction that can help others gain insights into solutions. Understand how to change culture and realize that the true driving force for change is to alter the brain.
